Hurricane Sally to bring flooding and Hurricane conditions to Southern AL, MS, and Southeastern LA.

Latest path from the NHC has Hurricane Sally potentially strengthening into a CAT 2 storm before making landfall near the Gulfport MS area by Tuesday. This afternoon the NOAA Hurricane Hunters investigated Sally and found Sally has strengthened into a CAT 1 Hurricane with winds of 85-90mph.

At this time the latest NHC forecast path has Sally strengthening into a CAT 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 90-104mph, and gusts up to 127 possible.

Peak storm surge is likely to be between 7-11 feet from New Orleans to just west of the Mobile area and southern Alabama coast.

Another big concern is the potential for heavy rainfall over the New Orleans LA, Gulfport MS, and Mobile AL area, as rainfall totals from this storm could be around 10-20” (yellow and pink colors in the map bellow). Residents in these coastal areas should prepare ahead of time and heed alerts and orders from local officials. And stay tuned to local news media, NWS, and officials for the latest.
